Moisturiser for Rosacea Prone Skin

WHAT IS IT?
Rosacea is not acne at all even though it can appear to be acne like.
The appearance of Rosacea can be simply redness on the cheeks, nose, chin or forehead or bumps and pimples on the face (hence acne Rosacea). It can appear as small, visible facial blood vessels or even simply irritated eyes (ocular Rosacea).
Frequent blushing can be the first sign of Rosacea. The most persistent sign is facial redness resembling sunburn or a blush that won’t fade. There may be itching, a sense of tightness in the skin, dryness/roughness of the skin, red patches, skin thickening, facial swelling and this can appear on the neck, chest, scalp or ears.
A sufferer may experience some or all of the symptoms.
CAUSE
Opinions vary from an infestation of microscopic mites to a fungal infection or a mutation of normal skin bacteria to a stomach infection – in other words, no-one knows what causes the condition. An interesting research note was that over a third of sufferers had Irish ancestry.
Medical treatment
As the cause is unknown, so treatment is uncertain. The focus is therefore on treating the symptoms rather than any potential cause. The prescription of various oral and topical antibiotics is common (as well as other medications). Sometimes, laser treatment is used to remove visible blood vessels where they cause distress. But, at the end of the day, it is hard to treat, medically, something that is of unknown cause and the main treatment has to really on identifying triggers and avoiding them.
Rosacea can often be “triggered” by a variety of factors including exposure to the sun, stress, hot or cold temperatures, wind, alcohol, spicy foods, heavy exercise, hot baths, certain skin care products and even hot drinks – it’s certainly worthwhile for sufferers to keep a diary of symptoms and what they were doing at the time of the appearance of those symptoms. If an association is made between some aspect and a flare up of symptoms, the appropriate lifestyle change should be made.
